Putting On My Big Girl Pants...Here We Go

I loved working jigsaw puzzles when I was much younger but I didn’t always have a lot of time to do them. When the lockdowns occurred in 2020, I found my way back to them and my love for working them returned. I received a beautiful puzzle as a gift  from a classmate and when I completed it, I gifted it to another puzzle lover. I purchased new puzzles quite often after my Mama started to help me with them. Mama was diagnosed with Dementia in January 2022 and working puzzles is about all that she has wanted to do for the last few years. She spends hours a day at the puzzle table, except on Sunday and Wednesday nights when she goes to church.

She insists that I take a picture of each one after it’s finished. Since the first puzzle was completed on 5/12/2020, we have completed 92 puzzles. Puzzle #92 was finished on 2/22/2024. Like puzzle #1, #92 was also a gift from a stranger that I met in Hobby Lobby. She was asking me about a puzzle that I had made from pictures of Mama’s nine great-grandkids. She was not a puzzle lover, so she offered to give me a puzzle that she had received as a gift. I picked it up and now that it's done, I will be having it framed for my Dallas Cowboy loving brother-in-law.

Mama’s already started on puzzle #93 and thankfully we don’t have to purchase puzzles anymore. Since our neighbor of over twenty-two years discovered that we love working them too, she shares some from her huge stash. She admits that she might have a puzzle hoarding problem. We currently have about ten to put together that she's shared with us.

We have had two puzzles that were gifts from our family framed so far. This is my first blog post and I desire to keep putting my big girl pants on and being brave enough to share things that are in my head or my heart.

Much Love,

Marilyn

Nice Aunt Marilyn! Do you have a preference of puzzle sizes, themes, complexity, or is a puzzle a puzzle, and you’re up for the challenge of completing it to see the finished masterpiece? I truly believe puzzle completion is a special skill and like you said, allotting time is key!

Marilyn! This is a beautiful space and I love that you are sharing your gift with the world! I am not much of a puzzle person, but I do appreciate that they probably bring the same sort of centering feeling that I get from crocheting or painting. It's also great that this is an activity that you can share with your Mom. I so admire your care and love for her.

I'm looking forward to reading more!!!
